Microsoft has just announced its Q3 results (for the quarter ended March 31, 2012). Some growth is noticeable with revenue of $17.41 billion this past quarter which as compared to Q2 is a growth of 6%. The company also saw a slight increase in the operating income which has risen by 12%. The net income however was slightly lesser this time around. The entertainment division in particular had disappointing numbers with the division seeing a decrease of 16% compared to the previous quarter (revenue of $1.62 billion). The company blames the “soft gaming console market” for the numbers.
The CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer said – “We’re driving toward exciting launches across the entire company, while delivering strong financial results. With the upcoming release of new Windows 8 PCs and tablets, the next version of Office, and a wide array of products and services for the enterprise and consumers, we will be delivering exceptional value to all our customers in the year ahead.”
The company mentioned in the press release, that Windows (PC) and Windows Live division saw a growth of 4%. Windows 7 apparently, still has sufficient demand even with the inevitable launch of Windows 8. Windows Phones are still slowly picking up though, but we figure that with the arrival of Windows Phone 8, things could change. Microsoft is also looking forward to the launch of Office 15, Windows 8, SQL Server 12, Windows Server 12, so the company hopes to turn the tables in the current quarter.
