HTC is reported to be ditching QWERTY smartphones once and for all. It is believed that the company will focus only on full touchscreen bar phones moving forward and rightly so. The touchscreen form factor has come a long way from when it first came into existence. Though some manufacturers have tried to experiment with both a touchscreen and a physical keyboard, it hasn’t really made a mark.
After the moderate success of the HTC ChaCha which didn’t quite manage to pick up despite the hype and publicity, the company was obliged to make this move. The smartphone had a dedicated Facebook button for easy sharing and access, but that didn’t seem to make an impact on the customers either. Maybe the narrowed down version of Sense didn’t sit well with the users. We would have liked to see another HTC QWERTY smartphone though.
According to the guys at Pocket-Lint, HTC’s design team gave out this information at the Frequencies event held in Seattle. As of now, it seems very unlikely that we would get to see another HTC QWERTY smartphone in the near future, but it is possible that the company would rethink its strategy in a couple of years.
