It seems like Dell isn’t particularly interested in smartphones anymore with the company announcing to exit the smartphone segment. Handsets like the Venue and Venue Pro were a moderate success, so it would make sense for Dell to leave when the time is right. The company has experimented with both Android and Windows Phone 7 and it hasn’t received the success it would have initially expected. The company came to this decision last month.
Speaking to Forbes, Michael Dell said that the company stood by its decision to not make smartphones and that it would not re-enter the market unless there is enough encouragement for OEMs like itself. There is no doubt that Dell sees great future with smartphones, but with poor sales going forward, there isn’t much the company could do.
Michael Dell, in a recent interview with Forbes said – “If the market changes so that a vendor like Dell can compete with smartphones more successfully we’ll likely reenter but, until then, our focus is going to be on managing, securing, and keeping these devices fed.”
Dell has Android and Windows Phone 8 to choose from if at all the company plans to make a surprise entry into the field. With Windows Phone 8 Apollo already managing to create quite a buzz, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a sequel to the Dell Venue Pro, though it seems very unlikely.
